Hi there, thanks for your message. We are planning to run an event next year for sure – we need all the help we can get. We’re not entirely sure what form this event will take – would you like to send us your details and we get in touch when we’re a bit more sorted? Our email is eatingawareness@gmail.com – once again thanks EAT
Hi, I came across this site earlier this evening whilst looking for support services in the Christchurch area. I am currently at university in England and am coming to Christchurch in August of this year for a placement. I am currently very early on in my journey of recovery but would like to be familiar with the services I could access should I still be struggling when I come to NZ.
Are your services for anyone living in christchurch and would I be able to access them? And how would I go about doing this? I am particularly interested in the counselling and any self support groups you may have.
I realise this is very forward planning but as I am sure you can imagine, coming to NZ and leaving my support system behind is causing a great deal of anxiety for me, which is having a negative impact upon my recovery.
Hi Tam
Well done for being so proactive about thinking about life in Christchurch and setting up supports for yourself in advance of being here
Yes, EAT’s services are available to anyone living in Christchurch. The process for accessing our counselling services involves having an initial appointment with one of our counsellors to assess your needs and situation, and for you to meet and check out our counsellor to see whether working together feels okay. Unfortunately, we do have a waiting list for our counselling service, so we can let you know the waiting time and how the list operates (but you could arrange to go on the list in advance of coming here, which would speed things up). And you should be able to join any available group programme relatively easily.
The best way to talk more with us and to make any arrangements in advance is to contact us via email: eatingawareness@gmail.com
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
Kate
